Sharing the gift of music in worship

Youth, Children, and Families
When it comes to Sunday School…we have tried many things. From traditional, grade-level classrooms to an interactive worship service, from “Sunday School in a bag” to take-home projects during Covid… We’ve settled (for now!) on a hybrid Children’s Sermon/Sunday School model. Several times a month, someone will lead a Children’s Sermon in worship. Following that, kids either bring a craft/activity back to their seats or head out into the Narthex to do a possibly noisier/messier craft or activity together. Have an idea of something you’d like to try for Sunday School? Let us know!!
We do Confirmation classes a little differently here. We believe that engaging youth and their parents in learning together is a healthier method of passing on the faith, and will lead to a lifetime of active involvement in the church!
For the past few years, Pastor Ben has been leading our middle and high school youth in “rolling through the Bible” after worship. They use the structure of Dungeons and Dragons to explore Bible Stories and grow in faith.
At various times throughout the year, the youth will take day trips up to the Cities to do youth service projects. There is also always a summer mission trip of some sort. Summer 2026, they will be heading to Omaha NE. They are also eagerly looking forward to the National ELCA Youth Gathering in 2027 in Minneapolis!
Families are invited to the Funky Bunch Bible Study! What began as a group meeting for a Bible Study on the Gospel of Mark (Marky Mark? Funky Bunch? Anyone?) has turned into a group of families meeting to let the kids run feral while the grownups discuss various books of the Bible. They nearly always share a meal together, sometimes at church, sometimes at parks or breweries in the community.
